MacLean-Fogg Component Solutions (MFCS) Well Represented at the 2014 North American International Auto Show

Every January, the automotive world turns its attention to Detroit, and the North American International Auto Show.  The Detroit show features displays, concept cars and significant product introductions from nearly every significant global automaker.  The 2014 show was no exception.  This year's show reportedly featured over 50 vehicle world premieres and attracted more than 5,000 journalists from 62 countries around the world.  The list of 2015 World Premiers included the:  Ford Mustang, Ford F-150, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z06, Chrysler 200 Sedan, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Honda Fit, Lexus F, Subaru WRX STI, Cadillac ATS Coupe, Volkswagen Golf R, Hyundai Genesis, the GMC Canyon, and the 2014 BMW 2 Series, to name a few.

The large majority of the vehicles on display feature a significant amount of MFCS products.  MFCS products can be found throughout some of the more significant vehicles from the show.  Products include transmission gear blanks (Metform), decorative wheel fasteners (Royal Oak) and high temperature exhaust fasteners (Maynard).

One of our customer's vehicles on display featured a revolutionary design change to replace the steel body panels with military grade aluminum, making the new version lighter and more durable than the outgoing model.  This customer's new aluminum body required a new frame fastener to be developed.  They called on our Mundelein division to develop an aluminum spin weld nut.  Mundelein worked with customer engineering for over 18 months to develop and refine this new product.

Prior to the public opening of the Auto Show, there are two days of industry previews.  These preview days allow for staff and executives of automakers and suppliers to tour the displays as the final touches are being put in place.  This year's industry preview was visited by several members of the MacLean-Fogg Company executive team.  The team visited every customer's booth at the show, including the Tier 1 companies on display whom MFCS also partners with for products such as gear blanks from Metform and screw plugs from Mundelein and suspension products from PWK.

The Detroit Auto Show ran from January 18th through Sunday the 26th.  Over 800,000 attendees viewed more than 550 vehicles, which were on display.
